This Guide is intended to assemble in a convenient form the procedures and formats established to facilitate the international exchange of measured wave data. The information contained here is intended to be of assistance to the collector or user of the data and to the computer programmer developing software to prepare or read magnetic tapes containing the data. Part 1 below contains a discussion of the exchange scheme. An overview presented in Part 2. Part 3 provides detailed information on documentation, formats, parameter codes and the availability of software for wave data exchange. The procedures and mechanisms for international exchange of wave data which are described here have been developed by the Task Team on Wave Data Management and the Group of Experts on Format Development of the IOC Working Committee on International Oceanographic Data Exchange (WC-lODE).
