A guide on Fish Welfare in Spanish Aquaculture - Volume 1: Concepts and generalities.

Abstract

The elaboration of this guide on fish welfare in Spanish aquaculture is important to fix concepts, establish common bases and develop the first consensual guidelines on animal welfare. The document provides information on the state of aquaculture in Spain and contributes to promoting more coordinated, responsible development of animal welfare. It is aimed at companies and professionals in the aquaculture sector, public administrations, legislators, scientific-technological and educational sectors, and society in general. This publication is intended to be the first of a series of guides offering codes of conduct and recommendations for correctly evaluating and promoting the welfare of the different fish species and production systems in Spanish aquaculture.
